Dr. Stephanie D. van Heerden is a Foot Doctor in Fort Myers, and Estero, FL. Dr. Van Heerden is originally from Indiana where she was Valedictorian of her high school, and was awarded the prestigious Coca-Cola Scholarship for her community service in homeless shelters in addition to her academic achievements. She also sang at Carnegie Hall in high school, and participated in various sports. Her aptitude for sports and mathematics lead her to complete a major in Kinesiology with a minor in Chemistry at Indiana University during her undergraduate studies, where she graduated with honors. She went on to the New York College of Podiatric Medicine to earn her doctorate in podiatric medicine, and then completed her residency at Good Samaritan Hospital Center in West Islip, New York. She trained under several specialties with an emphasis on trauma and wound care. She then went on to complete additional fellowship training in plastics and reconstructive surgery of the lower extremity at the renowned Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in the Plastic Surgery Department. In this fellowship program, a unique collaboration included vascular surgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedic/podiatric surgery in efforts to optimize patient outcomes for limb salvage and reconstructive surgery of the lower extremity. Dr. van Heerden additionally participated and completed training in Peripheral Nerve Surgery from the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons, Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine, Podiatric Dermatopathology, along with Foot and Ankle Arthroscopy. After completion of her training, she went on to work for IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians for three years prior to joining Associates in Medicine & Surgery in 2021. She has extensive experience in diabetic limb salvage, trauma, wound care, sports medicine, and reconstructive surgery through her fellowship training and clinical experience. Dr. van Heerden became board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery® within two years of practice and is additionally board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Van Heerden has volunteered on the medical team of the Hamptons Marathon, and was coordinator of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine Student Ambassador Program. She continues to demonstrate her ability in treating foot and ankle disorders as she is recognized annually as one of the top podiatric physicians in her field.
