IMG_0990Those nagging toes, awful corns and painful callouses can be fixed in a matter of minutes without any stitches or pins with minimal incisional hammertoe correction.
Doctors of Associates in Medicine and Surgery have been performing minimal incision hammertoe correction for over 30 years in Southwest Florida. They have performed this procedure thousands of times with very high success rate. Although this technique has been around a long time most people are not aware of it as a treatment option.
Dr. Alphonse Tribuiani, a Naples podiatrist for over 16 years, explains, “You have three bones and two joints in your little toes. A Hammertoe deformity is when one or more of the joints are contracted. When people suffer from this foot deformity they often have pain in the ball of the foot, corns and callouses and difficulty wearing closed shoes.”
Almost 20 percent of the population will suffer from hammertoe deformity. This condition is more prevalent among women due to improper shoe gear. “High heels are by far the highest contributor to hammertoes.” explains Dr. Tribuiani, “When women wear high heel shoes, the tendons on top their foot contract and overtime they get hammertoes.” These types of hammertoe can be reversed very simply by lengthening the extensor tendons and release the contractor of the toes.
“Tenotomy and Capsulotomy or T&C procedure for hammertoe correction is what I recommend for these patients.” explains Dr. Tribuiani.
This procedure is commonly performed in the office. Patients can walk without any assistive device right away. Some people return to work in a day or two. “Obviously, this procedure is not indicated in all types of hammertoes, but for the right patient this is such an great procedure.” Dr. Tribuiani.
